DOWNLOAD: INFEST 1987-2002 VOL. I & II

Blogged & Quartered put together this two volume Infest discography.110 tracks taken from a dozen recordings that are nicely cleaned up for your listening pleasure. Infest were one of the hardest bands to ever come out of California and appealed to all types of music fans including hardcore, metal, crust, and punk kids. Infest pioneered an entire genre of aggressive hardcore later coined "powerviolence" by Eric Wood of Neanderthal/Man is the Bastard. You can download both volumes here.

"Visions of unity seem so nice
But when I see a fight I think twice
When I go to the shows and see stupidity
All I can say is "Where's the unity?"

DOWNLOAD: SUPERTOUCH 1987-1988

Blogged & Quartered is back with another collection of unreleased and hard to find tracks from another NYHC great, Supertouch. Supertouch started in 1985 out of the ashes of New York hardcore band Death Before Dishonor, which featured a young Mike Judge on drums. Supertouch made their mark with their song "Searching For The Light" on the NYHC compliation The Way It Is as well as their album The Earth Is Flat. Supertouch was a more groove oriented band, bridging the gap between hardcore and indie rock.

DOWNLOAD: RINGWORM 1990-2003

Cleveland has had it's fair share of hardcore bands over the years, but my two favorites have to be Integrity and Ringworm. Ringworm hit the scene with their 1991 demo (which is my favorite recording of theirs) and along with Integrity, changed the face of hardcore.
Thanks to Blogged and Quartered, we bring you a collection of demos, split eps (all out of print), cover songs, live tracks, alternate mixes of some tracks from their first full length, and the only known Force of Habit track recorded in 1990. 27 tracks spanning 1990-2003. You can download it here.

DOWNLOAD: TURNING POINT DEMOS & LIVE ON WNYU 1988-1991

Once again, Blogged and Quartered is on it, releasing another great selection of unreleased tracks and rarities from another one of my favorite hardcore bands. This time Turning Point gets the treatment, with their 1988 Demo and a live recording from 1991 on WNYU. Turning Point were possibly the best Straight Edge band to ever come from New Jersey... Although short lived, Turning Point made their mark with their original song structures and musicianship. Do your best to find their album, It's Always Darkest Before The Dawn... It's one of my favorite hardcore albums ever released!
There is a link to download the recordings and more information here.
The demo was recorded July-August of 1988 at Bill Cribbin Studios in NJ. This is by far my favorite Turning Point recordings. Many of these songs were later re-recorded for the band's first s/t 7" on Hi-Impact Records released December of '88. Great record, but i'll take the demos any day. Eight of these ten tracks were released on the Turning Point discography released on Jade Tree Records in 2000, which i highly recommend purchasing.
The live set was recorded on WNYU's Crucial Chaos show on February 7, 1991. Fourteen tracks, spanning the band's output from '88-'91, including a few unreleased tracks. I cleaned up this set as best as possible, fixing any sound problems, removing tape hiss, boosting the sound, and editing the tracks to make it sound as "professional" as i could. I think it came out excellent. The band played an incredible set which deserves to be heard this way. I prefer many of these versions to the official releases, especially the LP tracks, as the raw production and added energy put these recordings over the top. Classic stuff, check it out.

DOWNLOAD: BURN 1990-1992

Burn was another one of my all time favorite NYHC bands. Although they were short lived, their debut 7 inch on Revelation, their appearances on both the Forever and the Rebuilding compilations, and their unreleased Last Great Sea demo pushed them into legendary status in the hardcore scene. With unrivaled musicianship and desire to break the mold of what most hardcore bands were doing at the time, Burn remain one of my favorite hardcore bands to this day.
Thanks to Blogged and Quartered we bring you a nice collection from Burn in their prime. You can download it here.

DOWNLOAD: JUDGE DEMOS & LIVE 1998 - 1990

Here's another piece of hardcore history courtesy of Blogged and Quartered. This time, they have posted an excellent sounding rip of the 1988 demo and various live sets from 1988-1990, including the WNYU set from '88. Straight Edge or not, Judge is definitely on my list of top 5 NYHC bands.
You can download the set here.

EBAY: JUDGE "CHUNG KING CAN SUCK IT" LP

In 1989, one of my all time favorite bands, Judge, went into Chung King Studios in New York to record their debut album, Bringing it Down. At the time, Chung King was well known for it's hip hop recordings of such acts as Run DMC, LL Cool J, and the Beastie Boys. Judge recorded the album in 3 days, and they were not happy with the recording at all. Their label, Revelation Records, pressed up 110 of these albums, calling them Chung King Can Suck It, and sent them out to fans that pre-ordered the record. A few months later, Judge re-recorded the album, and the Chung King version became many record collector's holy grail.
A copy of Chung King recently made it onto Ebay, and has a current bid of $2,950! You can check out the auction here.
This is what the seller had to say...
I am selling my Judge "Chung King Can Suck It" LP. This is Revelation Records release #-1. My copy for sale here is number 65 of 110 pressed. I have never played this record and it is in great condition. I have kept the vinyl out of the sleeve so that it wouldn't make a ring like you see in vinyl sleeves this old. I have had this thing for I'd say about 5 years, and now the time has come to sell it as the apocalypse will soon be upon us and I need to buy guns to shoot the zombies with. This used to be on the list of where all the Chung Kings resided that Kev Finn kept up on the Revelation Records website, but that list seems to be gone. I will be shipping this record overnight to you to minimize the time that the post office could have to screw something up with it. I will also insure the record for the full amount that you pay for it, and take every step to ensure that this record is taken care of in shipping. Good luck with your bidding!

THE MACONDO
The Macondo was a very special place to many kids growing up in Southern California. This small cultural center located on the east end of Melrose (walking distance from the legendary Anti-Club) was one of the only all ages venues that hosted Hardcore shows in Hollywood in the '90's. My band, Strife, was lucky enough to play the first show their (July 13 1992) as well as many other great shows their until the day they closed their doors. To many of us in the T.O.H.C. scene, this became a home away from home... The place could barely fit 200 people, it didn't have air conditioning, the P.A. was mediocre at best, but for us it was all we needed. I miss that place!

The legendary first show at the Macondo. This may have been Social Justice's last show before becoming Downset. My good friend Roy played in that band. Interlocked was East L.A. hardcore at their finest. If memory serves me right they played with Crazy metal guitars and Peavey amps!

Downcast had just released their first seven inch, and they were definitely one of our favorites. They were a big part of the politcial hardcore scene, check them out if you've never heard them. One Step Ahead was another great band... Heavily influenced by Verbal Assault.

This was a New Age Records showcase of sorts... We were all on New Age at the time... This is an amazing bill... sorry that you missed it!

It is so cool to see how diverse the bands that played there were. Supertouch were NY legends, hardcore but on the rock tip. Looking back, it's weird to even think that hardcore kids like them. Farside were really melodic as well. Stagger was a band from Simi.

This show was dope! Sparkmarker with their original singer (a post hardcore band heavily influenced by Quicksand). Seattle's hardcore heroes, Undertow and Unbroken!
Their were just so many good shows at the Macondo! I definitely miss that place. You can check out more flyers here.
If you haven't heard of any of these bands, do yourself a favor and seek them out! These were some of the best hardcore bands from the nineties!
