MIXTAPE: CHACE INFINITIE - I WOULD HAVE KILLED THIS

Chace Infinite is back with a brand new mixtape called I Would Have Killed This. This mixtape features Chace over 10 DJ Khalil beats. Look for a track from Chace on the upcoming Tradition mixtape! You can download I Would Have Killed This here.

Most Self Scientific fans know that a number of the songs that DJ Khalil does with other artists were originally songs or ideas intended for Self Scientific. Cashmere Agency and Prohibit NYC Present I Would Have Killed This is a full mixtape by Self Scientific’s frontman Chace Infinite and finds him going in over some of the more well-known beats that his partner, DJ Khalil, produced for other artists. The first joint leaked was over the popular “Kinda Like A Big Deal” track that featured The Clipse and Kanye West. Next, Chace attacked “I Still Kill,” the beat Khalil produced for 50 Cent and Akon. In classic Self Scientific fashion, Chace changes the subject matter to instead discuss life and his attempts to understand his own journey. Be sure to download the entire mixtape to hear the Chace Infinite put his own spin on 10 Khalil beats that were snatched up by other artists. The mixtape also contains a bonus of three original Self Scientific songs.

MIXTAPE: DRE BIGGITY - THE DIAPER DANDY

Check out Dre Biggity's IM KING presented mixtape, The Diaper Dandy. Diaper Dandy refers to the prestigious title sports analyst Dick Vitale gives to the best up and coming freshman college basketball players.

"People can expect something "new". I know it's been said over and over again but I really feel the music I'm putting out is something of its own. I ask people, people that really know music like what category do you put my sound in, where does it fit in within music as a whole and faces are always left puzzled before an answer. I've heard "Big", and "Stadium Hip Hop" when conjuring up a description of the sound so I guess people will just have to make their own opinions on it after they give it a
listen. It's forsure something unique and I think the CD as a whole is very relatable. I don't focus on the bragging, swagged out, cliche song lyrics but I try and make every song a record. Opposed to just rapping I'm trying to make each song a hit and potentially touch the soul of an individual after listening to it like yea I really felt that in my gut, from the dope
beat to the hook to the realness in the lyrics."

BURNING FIGHT

Our good friend Elano Pizzicarola wrote a story about our Burning Fight event. You can read the whole article in the "Features" section of our website.

The sun set and as it got darker and darker, more and more guests slowly sprinkled into Tradition. The event was a book release. The name of the book was Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution in Ethics, Politics, Spirit, and Sound and the author was Brian Peterson. In the book, Peterson interviews a variety of hardcore musicians and scene members about the sound and the ideas contained in the music they loved, specifically in the 1990s. T-shirts bearing the book’s title were draped aback the store’s front window. The walls, paraded gritty black and white photos of hardcore musicians and the genre's treasured memorabilia of flyers and posters alike.
The crowd was diverse and their ages varied greatly. Some were teens while others were in their thirties and forties. The crowed sprawled the well-lit room, and as fast-paced, intense hardcore, blasted out the JBL speakers at breakneck speed, filling the room with explosive energy, there was an evident commonality as these fans mingled.

VIDEO: RZA SPEAKS ON RAEKWON, GHOSTFACE, AND METHOD MAN JOINT ALBUM

We've been hearing some buzz about a joint album featuring 3 of the biggest names from the Wu Tang Clan Raekwon, Ghostface, and Method Man. MTV sat down with The RZA to hear his thoughts about this album.
“I think it’s a great idea,” RZA said of Raekwon, Ghostface and Method Man teaming up. “I was pushing that idea to them years ago. Back in the day, we was gonna have a branch called ‘The Brothers From the Grain’ that was kinda those guys right there. I’m gonna see Meth tonight in the studio to see if I could add on something to that project. Add some depth to it. They are three of the most prolific voices in Wu-Tang. Ghost would call it ‘Three the Hard Way Doing Their Thing.’ ”

RZA says the Clan are at a point where everybody is strong individually, which makes it even greater when they combine.

“We’re at a period of life, if anybody from Wu-Tang needs me, I’m there for them,” he elaborated. “Everybody has grown and matured to where we don’t need each other. … Everybody is now independent, and sometimes we become what I call interdependent. We don’t need each other, but it’s good to work with each other and use each other’s energy for the whole brand and the whole Clan. U-God reached out to me and said, ‘I want you to produce my whole album.’ I’m like, ‘It’s all good.’ When I worked [on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II] with Raekwon, he was like, ‘How much you gonna charge me?’ I said, ‘It’s on the house, baby. Just give me my publishing. My rights. But you don’t have to give me no money to work with you, baby.’ “

The $25.50 Stylophone Beatbox doesn't look like much, and if it weren't for one Brett Domino and his partner in hip-hop crime Steven Peavis, we just might have continued about our lives without knowing of this thing's potential. BLAKE GRIFFIN: POSTERIZES D.J. MBENGA

I hit the Clippers vs Lakers last night, the game was great and my Clippers hung around the whole game. I had to post Clippers Rookie Blake Griffin posterizing D.J. Mbenga, it was incredible how he was so high and far away from the basket he had to throw it in. You can get a little glimpse of Kobe and Bynum laughing on the bench. I feel for Mbenga whom I got a chance to chill with the night before, he's actually a really cool dude but he got shitted on! LOL.

KANYE WEST - THROUGH THE WIRE

Kanye West hooked up with Bill Plympton to put together an illustrated book featuring the words and lyrics of Kanye West. Bill Plympton's newest feature film, Idiots and Angels, was released last year, and featured the music of Tom Waits, Moby and Pink Martini. Through The Wire releases November 10th.

Through the Wire is a graphic memoir that illustrates the lyrics of twelve Kanye West songs to tell his story, from his decision to drop out of college to pursue his dreams in music, through his days spent folding chinos at the Gap while struggling at night to make a name as a producer, through the pivotal car accident that eventually set him on the course to stardom and the epiphany of realizing exactly who he had become.

TRADITION PRESENTS: MEAR & YEM :CRITICAL: NOVEMBER 7TH

Tradition is proud to present :Critical: a 2 person art show featuring the artwork of Mear and Yem, two of LA's most prolific graffiti writers. :Critical: examines the nature of these two legendary graffiti writers and their approach to fine art.

MEAR ONE: examines the aspects of content that accompany any piece of art. He is literally working on communicating some of what we as a society have forgotten or are unable to see.

YEM: navigates through a multi-media platform where information (data) and art intersect. The result is a visual experiment that tests the icons of the culture industry. His work involves a participation in which Theodor Adorno claims that it goes under the name of terror in mass culture. He is a pioneer of the Los Angeles graffiti/urban art movement and has shown through out the US and Europe. He is self taught.

:Critical: opens November 7th, and runs through January 2nd.
Opening Reception is November 7th from 7-11. Drinks and music provided.

MARBURY TO SIT OUT THIS SEASON AN RETURN 2010-2011

Stephon Marbury says he has "shut everything down" and has no plans to play this season, but expects to return to the NBA in 2010-11, the New York Post reported. Marbury, who played part of last season with the Boston Celtics after his messy divorce from the New York Knicks ended with a buyout, went unsigned as a free agent this offseason after turning down Boston's $1.3 million veteran minimum offer.

"I'm resting, doing what Michael Jordan did, enjoy life, do things I haven't done in 16 years, keep building my empire," Marbury said, according to the Post. "I wasn't going to Boston for that money. It was a prudent business decision to take off this year."

Marbury said he plans to attend the Knicks' home opener on Oct. 31, according to the report. But he says he's surprised anyone else wants to pay to see the Knicks. And he made it clear that the bad blood between him and the team and coach Mike D'Antoni has not yet been forgiven or forgotten.

"I'm just talking as a fan and New Yorker who grew up loving the Knicks: Why would I give you my money to watch them?" Marbury said, according to the Post. "This is atrocious. Guys coming down court, just raising up 3-pointers from anywhere. The coaching is horrible. What kind of coaching is this?"

NBA ALTERS TRAVELING RULES

NBA players will be able to take two steps before they have to stop, pass or shoot this season. The NBA has put into writing a rule allowing players on the move to gather the ball, after driving or catching it, and then take two steps. Throughout NBA history, the rulebook said players could take one step. It is believed to be the first time any league, at any level anywhere in the world, has explicitly allowed two steps.

The new rule reads, in part: "A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball."

STAFON JOHNSON SCHEDULED TO LEAVE HOSPITAL

Just 16 days after Stafon Johnson's neck was crushed in a weightlifting accident, the USC tailback is heading home. Johnson smiled during a news conference today at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, his first public appearance since the accident. He was scheduled to be released later in the today. Stafon Johnson's mother, Kim Mallory, did not leave her son's side in the 16 days he was at Cedars-Sinai. Wearing a black USC sweatshirt and a red cap with the Trojans' helmet logo, Johnson walked easily through the hospital and exchanged teasing gestures with friends. He also smiled at his mother, Kim Mallory, who hasn't left his side since Johnson accidentally dropped a weight bar on his neck, crushing his throat and larynx.

WARRIORS VS SUNS (INDIAN WELLS TENNIS CENTER)

I know its a bit late but I got a chance to hit the Suns vs Warriors Outdoor Exhibition Game last saturday night at the Indian Wells Tennis Center. It was a crazy experience being outside and watching a game. They had thousands of Suns fans that made the trip. The homey Anthony Morrow scored 30 points off the bench and the Golden State Warriors who defeated the Suns 104-101. My favorite new rookie in the league next to Blake Griffin is Stephen Curry, he scored 18 points including two free throws in the closing seconds. Corey Maggette added 17 off the bench too. Here's a few photos of the night:

SHYNE STILL REMAINS IN CUSTODY

The former Bad Boy rapper (born Jamal Barrow) was scheduled to be released from prison today October 6 after serving more than nine years of a 10-year sentence in connection with the 2001 Club New York shooting involving Diddy and Jennifer Lopez. But his release is now under review, as representatives for the rapper revealed to MTV News that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize.

“Shyne is currently in federal custody while his future immigration status is determined,” the rep said in a message to MTV News. Shyne attorney Oscar Michelen emphasized to MTV News on Tuesday afternoon that Shyne has not been released, contrary to media reports.

PREVIEW: ALEX PARDEE - "HIDING FROM THE NORMALS"

Alex Pardee's solo show "Hiding From The Normals" opens this Tuesday at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. According to Alex, this will be his last solo show for over a year, so if you are a fan you will definitely want to make it out to the opening. Aside from a standard limited edition print (Ed. of 50) there will also be a limited edition book being released in an edition of 200. Here are some clues that Alex gave about the show...

1. The entire show is based off of the beliefs of a man who recently went missing in real life. The man was a supposed crackpot and believes that there is another world living under ours filled with mutants. It is not known if this man is still alive or not.

2. In addition to creating paintings inspired by this missing man's beliefs, I have managed to get my hands on some actual evidence supporting the existence of this world. The evidence and some of his notes & sketches will be showcased alongside of the artwork.

3. I have recently become obsessed with this world that I jumped into, and I really hope that this showcase generates some interest in this universe called "The Marrow" so that this whole underworld can be expanded into something larger, like a film or an animated feature (hint, hint). So if you can't make it out to the show, but know anyone in the area, send them down!!

THE RETURN OF DOGTOWN

I started skating at Venice Beach when I was in 6th grade... Even though I wasn't the best, it was always a great place to hang out, skate, and seem some of the best pros in the world including Eric Dressen, Tony Alva, Rodney Mullen, Jesse Martinez, and all of the Dogtown crew... I'm glad to see this landmark skate spot renovated!
It was only last February when construction began on the 16,000-square-foot Venice Beach Skate Plaza. Today, eight months later, the $3.5 million in-ground concrete park full of bowls, ramps, rails, platforms, and steps opens.

When Venice Beach was renovated between 1999 and 2001, skateboarders demanded a park in honor of Dogtown, the birthplace of modern skateboarding. "Design input from local skaters and skating professionals helped make the Venice Beach Skate Park one of the most challenging arenas for skaters to ride," touts L.A. City Councilman Bill Rosendal's office. "The facility rivals other skate parks around the world but stands out as one of the only skate parks located on a beach."

KOBE JERSEY #1 IN EUROPE

Kobe Bryant's jersey is still more popular in Europe than those belonging to the NBA's European players. Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers jersey was the top-seller in Europe for the second consecutive year, the NBA said Thursday. The list was based on sales from retail locations across the continent during the 2008-09 season. Bryant, who is also atop the lists in the United States and China, is followed again by Kevin Garnett. Spain's Pau Gasol, Bryant's NBA teammate, is third, with LeBron James fourth and Dwyane Wade moving up three spots to round out the top five. No. 6 Tony Parker (France), No. 8 Andrea Bargnani (Italy) and No. 9 Jose Calderon (Spain) are the other Europeans in the top 10.
