NBA SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES ANNOUNCED

The NBA formally announced its new social media guidelines today, informing teams through a league memorandum that the use of cell phones, PDAs and other electronic communication devices and thus accessing Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites is now prohibited during games for players, coaches and other team personnel involved in the game.

The league has defined "during games" as the period of time beginning 45 minutes before the start of a game and ending "after the postgame locker room is open to the media and coaches and players have first fulfilled their obligation to be available to media attending the game." "During games" also includes halftime, according to the memo.

The announcement also stressed that teams "are free to adopt their own rules relating to the use of electronic communication devices and social media sites and services during practices, meetings and other team events."

DOWNLOAD: SUPERTOUCH 1987-1988

Blogged & Quartered is back with another collection of unreleased and hard to find tracks from another NYHC great, Supertouch. Supertouch started in 1985 out of the ashes of New York hardcore band Death Before Dishonor, which featured a young Mike Judge on drums. Supertouch made their mark with their song "Searching For The Light" on the NYHC compliation The Way It Is as well as their album The Earth Is Flat. Supertouch was a more groove oriented band, bridging the gap between hardcore and indie rock.

HE MAN AS HIPSTERS

I used to collect all the He-Man Toys growing up... What would He-Man look like if he was really into fashion and indie rock? What if Skeletor was an American Apparel model living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn? What if She-Ra was an art school dropout that spent her time bar-hopping in the Lower East Side?
For the past few months artists Adrian Riemann has been creating a master work that answers these questions. Essentially, Riemann has remixed the characters of the popular 1980s "Masters of the Universe" cartoon series as highfalutin, Justice and Kid Cudi listening, circa 2009 hipsters. On top of that, he styled the characters in designer clothing as if this was a fashion spread in a magazine.

FCC x Ek5obition got together for a t-shirt collab based off of the popular internet banger Floss Angeles. El Prez & Dale Danja dropped it as a bonus track on the acclaimed Perfect Strangers EP. The two featuring Convinced, DNEZ, C-San & Chris Focus shot a video with DRG Films and the momentum kept pushing from there. To celebrate the release of the limited shirt the FCC did 3 in-stores last week where they performed and met some of their fans. Store 13, Regal Tenant and our shop Tradition which were the only places you can get the Floss Angeles tees. This dope video was filmed & edited by the homey Eazee of Eazeest.com. Guerilla One just ran this interview with our good friend and very talented artist, Axis. Axis has contributed to many of our group shows at Tradition, and is one of the top names in the Los Angeles graffiti and art scene. You can read the whole article here.

"I love working with Pen and ink. In fact, I only worked in that medium for many years prior to working with acrylics. I think the approach is definitely different, because you have to think of things in a different sense so to speak. for example, with acrylics, the lighting and highlights come last, but with pen and ink you consider the lighting early on, due to the fact it is more like negative space. The content isn’t that much different, unless it is just a very graphically driven piece."

ARTEST SAYS BLAME WILL BE ON HIM IF LAKERS DON'T REPEAT

Ron Artest in a recent interview has said if his Los Angeles Lakers don't repeat as NBA champions, fans can point their fingers at him. "They should. That's exactly what should happen if we don't repeat," the star forward said during a visit to promote the Lakers' exhibition game against the Denver Nuggets at the San Diego Sports Arena on Oct. 23.

Artest who has professed his newfound affection for Southern California, signed a five year deal worth $33 million as a free agent in July. "They won last year, and I'm the new addition. The fans expect to repeat. Everybody in L.A. expects a second ring. And if we don't then yeah, they should point it right at me, throwing tomatoes and everything."

LAMAR ODOM GETS ENGAGED TO KHLOE KARDASHIAN

You may have heard that Lamar Odom isn't a free agent off the court either. After a whirlwind six-week courtship, the Lakers forward is engaged to be married to reality TV star Khloe Kardashian. "Khloe and Lamar want to get married before Lamar has to go away for training, and the season starts up [this fall]," a source told Us Weekly. "They are hoping to pull together a wedding within the next few weeks so they can get married and have a honeymoon."

Kim Kardashian, Khloe's more famous sister, seems happy about the union. "They're very, very happy and they are literally inseperable. Khloe thinks he's amazing and makes her laugh and smile constantly."

The reality star plans to marry Odom this Sunday in the Los Angeles area, multiple sources confirmed to people.com. The ceremony is being thrown together so quickly that guests are being notified by phone that formal invitations will arrive this week, the sources add.

FLOYD "OWE MONEY" MAYWEATHER TO PAY BACK TAXES

Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. agreed to pay $5.6 million in back taxes before the Internal Revenue Service was poised to take the money from his purse after his Saturday comeback fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. The IRS sent the Nevada Athletic Commission a levy notice on Sept. 4 ordering Mayweather's unpaid taxes from 2007 to be deducted from his $10 million fight purse, commission executive director Keith Kizer told The Associated Press. Kizer said the IRS backed off one week later, after Mayweather agreed to pay the money. Mayweather won the fight in a unanimous decision.

Mayweather's tax attorney, Jeffrey Morse, told the AP on today that federal officials never intended to take Mayweather's purse, and the five division champion has satisfied all his IRS debts. "Floyd has and I will absolutely attest to it, more than satisfied every tax obligation that he has," Morse said. "As of today, as of some time ago, which I can't tell you when, he owes zero to the IRS."
Morse said he expected the IRS to release a $6.17 million lien filed with the county recorder's office in Las Vegas in October last year.

EK5OBITION X FCC X TRADITION (RECAP)

Yesterday, Tradition hosted the "Floss Angeles" release party with EK5obition and the FCC. I want to say thanks to everyone that decided to say f*ck football, and came out to show their support for some of the best up and coming hip hop artists from the West Coast.
The in store event featured performances from El Prez, D-Nez, Chris Focus, and Dale Danja as well as DJ sets from Critical Beatdown L.A. The party was also the official release of Ek5obition's "Floss Angeles" collab tee with the FCC.

Malice: This album is like redemption for me. We’ve been through so much with the label, with so much in our lives. Around Hell Hath No Fury, it was just rough times. You could probably hear it in the music. We had a lot of dead weight around us that got cleared out. This time around, everything is freer; we’re in a happier place. You can really hear the change in the music. Listen to “I’m Good.” You can feel it that we’re better. Definitely. Hell Hath No Fury is about when it was more raw. This album is more along the lines of Lord Willin’. And you know Hell Hath No Fury is my favorite album.
Why is it your favorite album?
Pusha: It’s everything I want to hear in rap. My taste isn’t the most commercial of tastes. When I put on an album, I find those records I like. If I’m listening to Ross, I’m listening to “Mafia Music.” If I’m listening to Jeezy, I’m listening to track 17. That’s what I want to hear

I conducted this interview with Patrick Martinez a while back for Vapors Magazine... Unfortunately, right as this was going to print the editor left and the entire issue got scrapped... Patrick Martinez was predestined to create art since he was a small child. From his early youth drawing comics, to his stint with graffiti in middle school and high school, to his time at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, to his current career as a fine artist, Patrick has been determined to succeed as an artist.
Patrick focuses on the phenomenology of his surroundings, and his work is influenced by graffiti, hip-hop, and pop culture, as well as by everyday people that don’t usually appear in the limelight. We sat down with Patrick to talk about his creative process, fresh off the opening of his first solo show, "You Dont Have to Lie to Kick It," at Upper Playground in Los Angeles

BREAKING NEWS: CAVS WEST ARRESTED FOR WEAPONS POSSESSION

Police say Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West was arrested after officers pulled him over for speeding on a motorcycle while carrying two handguns and a shotgun in a guitar case.Prince George's County police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Reedy says the Cleveland Cavaliers player was arrested about 10 p.m. last night. Reedy says West was riding a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle north on the Capital Beltway in Upper Marlboro when he cut off an officer, who pulled him over. Police say a handgun was found in his pocket, another in his pant leg and a shotgun in a guitar case strapped to his back. West, 26, who lives in Brandywine, was charged with speeding and weapons counts. Reedy says West was released on his own recognizance early today.

50 CENT LOSES TO RAMPAGE FOR THE ROLE OF MR. T

Here's a video of Al Roker as 50 Cent drops by to tell of a performance in below zero temperatures, his new book, and it how he's a big fan of Mr. T. Yes 50 was telling the truth about his recent audition for the role as Mr. T but UFC star Rampage Jackson got the part. I know first hand because my mom is in Vancouver Canada working on this film as we speak. I loved the A Team growing up so I hope its a good one even though its a more updated version of the hit tv series.

VIDEO: THE MAKING OF JAY-Z'S BP3 ARTWORK

Photographer Dan Tobin Smith said Greg Burke, the creative director on the project at Atlantic Records had seen the Letter ‘E’ I had shot with the set designer Nicola Yeoman and I guess he had it in the back of his mind when he was thinking of ideas for Jay-Z’s new artwork for Blueprint 3. I think Greg and Jay-Z had lots of ideas about what the album meant and it seemed to be about taking it back to the source, in terms of the music itself and then subsequently the artwork. For the album and the idea was it was very much about the music and all the things that make music. The 3 is represented by 3 bars which is of course the old way of writing ‘3’ so that seemed to work really nicely with the idea behind the album and the set design that evolved. We all liked the idea that the installation was almost machine like, like all these things were interlinked. That’s why everything is packed and jumbled together. Like it had kind of grown out of this corner.

I think it was a brave approach for Jay-Z as all his previous albums have had him on them. I love still life, and the way I shoot is quite old school. It took 3 days to shoot, was all shot on 10×8 inch film, so the quality in the whites is fantastic, so much subtle tone. We worked long and hard on the colour work on the post and even in a single page mag advert I can see that effort. You could blow the image up to the size of a building and it would still hold up. It seems the album is about that old school crafted production so its nice that that same method went into the shoot.

The reaction has been really good. Kanye put it on his blog which was nice. I’m sure some people want to see Jay-Z on the cover but at least they will talk about it. I love the idea of this kind of still life photography being so looked at. When they see the rest of the shoot for the singles I think it will grow on some of the people who were maybe less enamoured with it. There has obviously been comparisons to the letter E, some people not realising it was me who shot it! It was great that we shot it and the whole experience was great, everybody worked together really well.

BRYON RUSSELL CHALLENGES MJ TO A GAME OF ONE-ON-ONE

You may remember MJ's famous last shot on Bryon Russel of the Jazz in 1998. Well he's once again in the news, Bryon Russell took it as a compliment that Michael Jordan called him out during his Hall of Fame acceptance speech and Russell responded on today with a direct challenge. He wants to play MJ in a game of one-on-one.

"Mike, if you want this, come get it," Russell said on the "Waddle & Silvy" show on ESPN 1000. "I'm out here in Calabasas (Calif.). You have the private jet, come on and fly out here. "The second game can take place in Chicago. I'll fly out there. Let's make a nice, little challenge, have some fun with it and entertain once again."

During Jordan's speech on Friday, he said Russell told him in 1994 that he wanted to guard Jordan. During the 1998 NBA Finals, when Jordan's Chicago Bulls faced Russell's Utah Jazz, Jordan reminded Russell of his wish and said it was about to be realized. Russell was the defender Jordan shook before rising to take the clinching shot in Game 6.

Boston’s New Balance Athletic Shoe company is suing LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, accusing the luxury goods company of copying its best-selling casual sneaker. New Balance claims Louis Vuitton’s Minstrel shoe is virtually identical to its 574 sneaker introduced in the mid-1990s. Louis' Minstrel sneaker retails for $590 while New Balance's 574 retails for just around $60. Let's see how this one turns out.

Weburbanist just posted a cool little piece about prison tools and inventions. Homemade weapons, hot plates, games, bugs, alcohol, tattoo guns can all be made to make life on the inside a little easier. Check out the whole article here.

Being locked up is no picnic, to be sure, and people in prison have to learn to do without the small comforts of life on the outside. But, thanks to books and movies about prison life, it’s pretty well-known that inmates have an endless capacity for invention. The empty peanut butter jar or used Popsicle stick that anyone else would throw away becomes a valuable tool in prison. Most of these items are considered contraband and would be confiscated if found, but that doesn’t stop inmates from recycling and repurposing the materials at hand to create some truly astonishing items.

AUDI R8 SPYDER

The Frankfurt Motor Show is just around the corner and the leaks of new models keep coming out online. As a matter of fact, this Audi R8 Spyder is what the people had been speculating on and now it is official. This has to be one of the hottest drop tops out at the moment and it packs a punch in the engine department with Lambo derived 5.2 litre V10 putting 525hp to the ground at 390lb ft of torque. All other details will need to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show to be announced but this is definitely a car to look out for in the near future.

IVERSON SIGNS WITH MEMPHIS

Allen Iverson wants to prove he's not finished yet. The Memphis Grizzlies want to rev up the rebuilding process with a young roster. That is why the 34-year-old Iverson signed a one-year contract today with a team that hasn't reached the playoffs since 2006 and has never won a postseason game. The Grizzlies are coming off a 24-58 season that tied for fifth-worst in the NBA.

"This year for me is so personal," Iverson said."It's basically going to be my rookie season again. It hurts, but I turn the TV on, I read the paper, I listen to some of the things people say about me having the season that I had last year and me losing a step, things like that. They're trying to put me in a rocking chair already."

The Grizzlies announced they had signed the former NBA MVP and 10-time All Star this morning, minutes before Iverson was introduced at a news conference. The 13-year veteran was welcomed with a standing ovation in an atmosphere that felt like a pep rally, with fans in the lobby of the FedExForum.

DEREK ALBECK & FRENCH - "THE INITIATION"

Derek Albeck and French's 'The Initiation' opens next Saturday at the Cerasoli Gallery in Culver City.
The Initiation consists of works in a variety of medias, including drawings, serigraphs, video and a small installation. With a shared interest in the occult, Albeck and French explore the idea of an initiation rite as interpreted by two artists working in different techniques and with unique conceptual ideas. The works are mutual investigations of forms of transformation and passage as rites of initiation, as well as tongue-in-cheek meditations on extreme music, such as a metal song by the band Inquisition. Derek Albeck lives and works in Los Angeles developing complex figurative works influenced by his background in graphic printmaking. His work has been exhibited in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. French is an artist from South East England whose love of metal music, history and story-telling informs his often dark artwork. He has exhibited in the UK, France, Denmark, Sweden, the U.S., Australia and Israel.

KID CUDI - SOUNDTRACK 2 MY LIFE & SIMPLE AS

It seems like there are only two albums being released in September, Raekwon's OB4CL2 and Jay-Z BP3. There has been so much hype on those two records, that I didn't even realize that Kid Cudi was releasing his album, Man on the Moon, next week.
Here are two leaks from Cudi's debut, "Soundtrack 2 My Life" produced by Emile, and "Simple As" produced by Plain Pat.
For the record, the Cudi track on the BP3 is my favorite track of the album.

If your a diehard Entourage fan then you might recognize this Ferrari, Vince got it for Turtle for his birthday! The new Ferrari California is no joke however the 454 hp V8 engine is subdued by Ferrari standards, it is consistent with the car’s quiet elegance and the company’s attempt to attract drivers who prefer elegance over power but the car can be threatening if teased. It has a top speed of 193 mph and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds. In fact, because of its 7 speed, dual-clutch transmission, the California is quicker than the lighter, more powerful F430. Ferrari has priced the California at nearly $200,000 and expects to produce 5,000 examples over the next two years. (The manufacturer says it already has 2,000 people on a U.S. waiting list.)

NOVITEC ROSSO FERRARI 599 GTB FIORANO

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is widely acclaimed as one of the best driver’s cars on the road right now but Dutch tuning house Novitec Rosso took it further by upgrading the vehicle with twin superchargers making a massive 808 horsepower last November. Ironically this upgrade was too much of a beast for most drivers and Novitec has prepared a much more toned down package for the V12 super-GT. Novitec achieved 660 horsepower which is extra 40 horsepower over the standard version. To improve on the handling and making this vehicle more user friendly, a fully adjustable suspension was added along with three piece modular wheels measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear. Aesthetics have been improved with the full range of body kits that not only gives the Ferrari a more agressive look but make it more aerodynamic.

OREGON RUNNING BACK PUNCHES BOISE STATE PLAYER POSTGAME

The Pac-10 will review tape today of Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount's dropping Boise State linebacker Byron Hout with a postgame punch to the jaw to determine whether Blount will be disciplined. Immediately following Oregon's 19-8 loss at Boise State on last night, an ESPN replay of the incident showed Hout taunting Blount as the teams converged onto the field. As a Broncos assistant coach moved to separate Hout from Blount, the Oregon senior threw a right cross that connected with Hout's right jaw. Hout went down and popped right back up.
