ODOM TO STAY WITH LAKERS

The Los Angeles Lakers have at last reached terms on a new contract with sixth man Lamar Odom, after a month of frosty negotiations that might have troubled the team and its fans more than just about anything they saw during last season's playoff drive to the championship.

"I always wanted to come back because we won the championship," Odom told ESPN's Shelley Smith. "I'm playing for the biggest brand in the world. And I'm playing with the most fluid, talented center in the world in Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum's coming back and of course Kobe Bryant. "But to now get an opportunity to play with Ron Artest, a guy I've known 16 years, it means a lot. I told Ron Ron a few weeks ago I couldn't walk away. I still had to fight. Everytime negotiations didn't go the way I thought, I just took a step back, like them pulling the offer off the table, I just knew I had to fight."

Sources with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com that Odom and the Lakers today agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $33 million if the Lakers exercise their option on the fourth season.

Stop saying music sucks. There’s good music. Go find it. Stop listening to the radio. Radio has always sucked. When has radio been good? Radio hasn’t been good in L.A. since KDAY left, when they were breaking records. Radio has always sucked. Remember Chuck D? “Radio Won’t Play Me.” They were playing Vanilla Ice and Hammer. Stop acting like the radio is good.

That’s why they make CDs and cassettes and albums, so you can go and listen to what you want. Radio can suck my dick. Don’t ever play my fucking song again, radio. Ever, radio. Please! And you know what the funny thing is? They still play it. The thing is, I don’t give a fuck and I never have, dude. I’m telling you, we consider ourselves more like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd over here instead of some pop shit

BMW S.X CONCEPT

The BMW S.X concept is the work of designer Iulian Bumbu. The concept delves into what a future sports luxury coupe from BMW might look like, and is positioned as a successor to the BMW 6-series. The design exercise continues with BMW’s “flame-surfacing styling language” and maintains a sense of uniformity and continuity throughout the exterior. The design has high-mount brake lights incorporated into the edges of the rear window, and lateral vents are placed just behind the front wheels. The design strikes a balance; it is neither a radical departure from the BMW design language, nor does it blindly follow the same.

BREAKING NEWS: BOXER FORREST KILLED IN ATTEMPTED CARJACKING

Former two-division world champion Vernon Forrest was shot and killed Saturday night during an attempted carjacking. "It's 100 percent confirmed. He's dead," said Shaw, who had two stints as Forrest's promoter. "I will say this about him -- he was a decent human being. His work with kids, I think people knew how much he cared for kids, underprivileged and mentally challenged people. He was a real decent human being outside the ropes."

WSB Radio in Atlanta first reported the shooting, citing a police spokesman. Forrest, who was 38, lived in Atlanta and was an Augusta, Ga., native. He was shot seven or eight times as he chased at least two men who had tried to steal his Jaguar as he put air in his tires at an Atlanta gas station, Lt. Keith Meadows said, according to the radio station. But Forrest had a gun and confronted the men, police said.

BLACK FLAG LIVE IN PITTSBURG 7/4/81

Thanks to More Than A Witness, we bring you this live soundboard recording of Black Flag from 1981. Black Flag is one of my favorite Punk/Hardcore bands of all time and it's great to hear a live recording like this. You can download the audio here. Check the info below.

For all intents and purposes, Black Flag was the first American hardcore group to exist. Emerging from a Southern Californian beach community, they gained international notoriety through incessant touring and undoubtedly shaped local scenes wherever they played. The emergence of their own record label definitively influenced the means by which independent artists could release their own material and thus the greater scope of American punk rock. Perhaps stating this is palpable and overt at this point. Regardless, the influence of Black Flag should never be understated.

This recording consists of a good soundboard recording featuring Dez Cadena on vocals. Perhaps Dez had the least prowess as a front man considering the efforts of Keith Morris and Henry Rollins, but nonetheless Dez shines on this tape. This one starts with a sarcastic thank you to the Pittsburg police department and promptly erupts into a vehemence of magnificence. The Flag tears through 28 songs with fierce tenacity. The recording is an excellent soundboard with some nice rough characteristics. There is a slight cut during “Revenge.” I believe this is on the original master because I’ve yet to hear a version that is complete.

FORMER BRUIN O'BANNON SUES NCAA

Former UCLA basketball player is suing the NCAA over its use of former student athletes' images in DVDs, video games, photographs, apparel and other material. In a federal lawsuit filed today, Ed O'Bannon says the NCAA illegally has athletes sign away their rights to the commercial use of their images and does not share any of the proceeds from their use with former athletes.

"While the NCAA, its member conferences and schools, and its for-profit business partners reap millions of dollars from revenue streams ..., former student athletes whose likenesses are utilized to generate those profit centers receive no compensation whatsoever," the suit claims.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and calls on the NCAA to pay the former athletes what it has allegedly made from the use of their images. That amount has yet to be determined, said Megan Jones, a partner with the law firm of Hausfeld LLP, which is representing O'Bannon. It also seeks an injunction on behalf of current student athletes barring the NCAA from licensing the rights to their images.

WADE DROPS CONVERSE FOR JORDAN BRAND

NBA scoring champion Dwyane Wade is changing shoes, making the switch from Converse to Nike's Jordan Brand.
Nike announced today that the star Miami Heat guard will now represent the Jumpman label, joining Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Derek Jeter and others. "I want to go global. It's something I feel like I have to do. I want to continue to build my brand."

Wade had three years left on his deal with Converse, which made him the centerpiece of its attempt to reinvigorate a once-thriving basketball business. That relationship seemed rocky when the 2006 NBA Finals MVP wore his most recently released signature shoe, the "Wade 4," only once last season and favoring an older model instead. But Wade said the partnership ends on good terms.

"When I came into the NBA, I didn't have a lot of exposure and Converse gave me an opportunity to head a brand and be the face of a brand," Wade told The Associated Press. "I'm really thankful for six long, good years. I've gotten five shoes out of the deal and my dream came true at the Converse brand, because they put my name on a pair of sneakers."

I am a fan of Steele Pulse and when I heard the beat Khalil told me Kweli was going to use it, I immediately began trying to get on the record. More so than any other artist Khalil works with I felt like I would have fit on this particular album and this particular song. Honestly I cant remember why it wasn’t used, but it wasn’t. I remember sending it to Kweli’s engineer but you know how shit goes…1 verse, no hook. The beat ended up being a song called Hostile Gospel Pt. 2."

MJ'S PEPSI COMMERCIAL (NEVER BEFORE SEEN FOOTAGE)

It's believed Jackson's addiction to painkillers and sedatives started after the commercial incident.

It's no secret that many of the early Revelation Records bands (as well as Rev owner Jordan Cooper) collected GI Joes. This new toy pays homage to that, and is cast in unpainted green vinyl (like the OG green army men) and packaged in a wooden green foot locker inspired by the footlockers of the original 12" G.I. SHEPARD FAIREY SPEAKS ON HIS ARREST

In the man's own words...
“For anyone who has been following my court case in Boston, a resolution has finally been reached. I was originally facing 34 felony charges with a maximum penalty of 87 years in jail. My attorney negotiated a plea deal for me to plead guilty to three misdemeanors and get two years probation and a fine in exchange for all the other charges being dropped. Considering the tremendous waste of time and money so far, this solution seemed the most productive to end a process which could have dragged on considerably and potentially resulted in jail time if things did not go well for me. I’m glad to put this behind me so I can focus on making art and the other positive things in my life. I have no negative feelings toward Boston, my ICA show has been an incredible success with over 100,000 people attending. I’d like to thank the ICA staff who have been great to work with, and also all the Boston property owners who invited me to display my work on their properties. I will be back in Boston on July 31 for Obey Experiment REDUX, a party celebrating the success of the exhibition at the ICA. I will finally get to DJ at the ICA and my friends Z-Trip and Chuck D will also be performing. After the exhibition closes on 8/16 in Boston, my 20 year survey travels to the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh”

MINOR THREAT - LIVE AT IRVING PLAZA 5/15/82

Check out this live sound board recording of one of the best hardcore bands of all time, Minor Threat. This tape was recorded at Irving Plaza in New York way back in 1982. You can download the whole set here.

This show was recorded as the band was writing for the "Out Of Step" 12". This soundboard recording is almost as good as it gets. The band is tight, focused, and powerful despite having to play on a overcrowded Irving Plaza stage packed with rowdy New York punks. It's arguable that this recording could even warrant an official release because of it's excellence, even if the band takes way too much time between their songs.

It seems as if tensions between DC and New York punks were legitimate. Ian Mackaye delivers some snide stage banter about how inebriated certain crowd members are and mockingly refers to Harley Flannegan as a "rock star" and dedicates an impromptu dub cover of Government Issue's "Asshole" in his honor. The ignorance of late adolescence also prevails when Mackaye debases a female crowd member in a.... somewhat derogatory manner. Mackaye plays sardonic sideshow man between numbers and is pretty hilarious throughout the entire performance.

Springa of SSD seems to be the king of the pigpile since his backup vocals are so prominent throughout the whole set.

NIKE CONFISCATES LEBRON CAMP TAPES

What happens at LeBron's camp stays at LeBron's camp. As you know a minor controversy erupted at the LeBron James Skills Academy on Monday night when two videographers recorded a pickup game in which Xavier's Jordan Crawford dunked on James. A representative with Nike, which runs the camp at the University of Akron in James' hometown, made no mention of Crawford's dunk. He said the tapes were confiscated because videotaping of after-hours pickup games at the camp is not allowed.

Ryan Miller, who videotaped the dunk and had his tape confiscated.
"[Nike Basketball senior director Lynn Merritt] just said, 'We have to take your tape,' " Miller said. "They took it from other guys, too." Miller said he had been filming all day and had his tapes confiscated only after Crawford's dunk over James. "LeBron called Lynn over and told him something," Miller told CBSSports.com. "That's how I knew his name was Lynn. LeBron said, 'Hey, Lynn. Come here.' " Minutes later, Miller said Merritt demanded his tape.

MICHAEL JACKSON IS TEARING UP THE CHARTS!

NEW YORK - Nielsen SoundScan says 800,000 copies of Michael Jackson albums were bought in the U.S. last week — nearly double his sales from the previous week.

Jackson is claiming the entire Top 10 roster on the Top Catalog Album chart this week. His “Number Ones” collection is the top seller, followed by “Thriller.” Solo albums occupy every position but No. 7, where the Jackson 5’s “Ultimate Collection” album resides.

Data from the week ending Sunday — the first full week since Jackson’s June 25 death — shows physical albums accounted for 80 percent of his sales.

On Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart, Jackson holds five out of the top 10 slots, with “Man in the Mirror” leading as his top-selling digital download song of the week.

Four Jackson CDs also are in the top 10 albums sold on iTunes, and five of the top 10 singles for the week ending Monday.

I also found my new favorite dunker Keion Bell of Pepperdine University, dude is only 6'2 with at least a 45' vert! Here's come pics of the dunk contest:

CREATE YOUR OWN DAMIEN HIRST

IartistLondon created this interesting DIY art project (which may or may not be a joke). This kit allows you to recreate Damien Hirst's masterpiece "For The Love of God" with a platic skull, crystal beads, and some glue...

For the Love of God is an amazing piece by Damien Hirst that consists of a platinum cast of a human skull encrusted with 8.601 diamonds including a massive pear- shaped one on the forehead. It cost 14 million pounds to produce. This is the ultimate contemporary piece of art that everyone wants to display in their home.

Now, with IHIRST you will be able to create your very own replica. We have included a real size plastic skull and and all the crystals you need to create your copy (Yes! Each one of the 8.601 crystals at an incredible price!). Even the glue and the tweezers are included; patience is the only thing you need. It´s a challenge!! You can even customize your design by adding crystals with different colours if you prefer. Choose your tools. With IHIRST you can create an entirely new design or stick to the original one. Enjoy a piece of art that´s as entirely individual as you are yourself.
CONTENTS: PLASTIC HUMAN SIZE SKULL, CRYSTAL BEADS (8,601 PIECES), GLUE, PAINTBRUSH, TWEEZERS, SILVER PAINT, INSTRUCTIONS.

LEXUS LF ROADSTER (CONCEPT)

A series of concept cars comprise the Lexus LF, or “L-finesse” line and this year the Toyota Motor Corporation introduced the LF-A Roadster, a topless version of the previously revealed LF-A coupe. The LF series represents a new direction in design for Lexus centred around the philosophy of intriguing elegance, incisive simplicity and seamless anticipation.

The high performance topless roadster will be set to compete with some of the most desired vehicles on the roads today. At a glace, the low-profile aerodynamic form is built from lightweight carbon fibre and aluminium, and a rear wing ascends automatically as a trigger speed is reached. While there is no official word yet about which type of top the LF-A roadster will be fitted with, we’re expecting to see a fully automatic retractable hardtop as Lexus will want to keep its competitive edge.

BREAKING NEWS: WTF TURKOGLU SIGNS WITH RAPTORS

Forget my post earlier! Free agent forward Hedo Turkoglu changed his mind Friday, deciding not to join the Portland Trail Blazers, opting instead to accept an offer from the Toronto Raptors, sources told ESPN.com. The Raptors last-minute bid will give Turkoglu all of the salary-cap space they will get by renouncing their rights to Shawn Marion, Anthony Parker and Carlos Delfino. The Raptors expect to have about $10.1 million in cap space to give to Turkoglu for his first-year salary; he would get an eight percent annual raise over the next four seasons of the deal, a source told ESPN.com.

The Raptors have until July 7 to renounce Marion, Delfino and Parker, so it remains a possibility and that a sign-and-trade deal could take shape. But as of now, it is a straight-up deal between Turkoglu and Toronto. Turkoglu's decision to go to the Raptors sent shock waves throughout the NBA as he apparently became the first player to renege on an agreement in principal since Carlos Boozer left Cleveland for Utah in 2004.

HEDO TURKOGLU TO THE BLAZERS?

Hedo Turkoglu has reached an agreement in principle to join the Portland Trail Blazers, according to sources. Although a verbal commitment may be announced sooner, the terms of the contract cannot be finalized until Wednesday, when the NBA informs teams what the 2009-10 salary cap will be. The Orlando Magic's recent trade for Vince Carter, who has a large salary and plays small forward which is Turkoglu's position made it highly unlikely Turkoglu would be back in Orlando.
