J. BANNON - POSEIDON & HEPHAESTUS

The "Poseidon/Hephaestus" pieces by J. Bannon were commissioned by and made for the Tradition Art Show "Public Domain" in Los Angeles. These were inspired by Jim Phillips' "Jason Jesse" Mini skateboard art and created specifically for display at the event. This is a project we've been meaning to get off the ground for quite some time now, since the close of the "Public Domain" Art Show. These are really over the top, but that was the intention. Extremely limited in amount, incredibly massive in size. Not for everyone, but for those that it appeals to, will know immediately.

Measuring in at a massive 30"W X 60"H, the pieces were created using a variety of media including oils, gouache, and pen & ink. These varying medias bring to life this iconic/ominous figures in a truly unique and haunting way. The sheer size of the print is also stunning, adding a whole new dimension to the work. Presented as Museum quality Giclee prints, each one is outputted on an Archival paper stock in a limited edition of 30. Each Giclee print is hand signed and numbered by the artist.

Available now from the Deathwish Estore.

DJ MUGGS AND PLANET ASIA - PAIN LANGUAGE

In the meantime, check out a new track that Mos Def debuted at the party called "The Glow."

A TRUE "PIMP" RIDE

One of my High School friends Nick decided to roll up today and show off his 4 year project! Its a 1929 Packard! The car is so dope and more amazing in person. The blue book on the car is more expensive than a Lambo! When he isn't driving this he is shitting on people in his white 1961 Rolls Royce!

LISKFEST

Our buddy, Chris Lisk, put together the self-named "Liskfest," which kicks off October 11th in Irvine. He's been talking about this for a few years now, and it is great to see it come to fruition. The Fest features some of the biggest names in Hardcore, Punk, Metal, and more! Some personal standouts include: GB, Rival Schools, and Living Sacrifice.
I like that they mixed the lineup to include something for everyone. It reminds me a lot of the first Warped Tour where a you had bands like Sick of It All, and Quicksand playing with No Doubt and Social Distortion. In the late eighties a lot of hardcore shows had mixed bills as well, and it wasn't uncommon to see a band like Insted or Uniform Choice playing with Bad Religion. The first time I saw GB they had Down By Law open for them too...
We were asked to play this show, but unfortunately we couldn't do it. Anyway, I know where I will be on October 11th! Good work Chris!

REDEEM TEAM GETS GOLD!

Culminating a three-year mission to end years of embarrassment, the U.S. team survived a huge challenge from Spain, winning 118-107 in the gold-medal game Sunday. After overwhelming everyone for seven games, the Americans led by only four points with under 2½ minutes to play. USA proved they could handle a close game that it seemed would never come in Beijing and ultimately get the first U.S. gold medal since the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Dwyane Wade scored 27 points for the Americans and Kobe Bryant added 20 points. Rudy Fernandez scored 22 points and Pau Gasol had 21 for the Spanish, the reigning world champions who were hoping to win their first Olympic gold but they didn't HAHAHA! GO USA!

T.I managed to not only wrangle 3 hip hop heavyweights with the most swagger in the game for his new track "Swagger Like Us," but these four MC's also happen to be four of the top 20 earners of 2008 on one track! That's 138 million on one track! You can download "Swagger Like Us" here.

USA BEATS ARGENTINA, GOLD MEDAL GAME NEXT!

Team USA ended their streak of final four flops and Argentina's hopes of an Olympic gold-medal repeat with 101-81 semifinal victory today. Argentina star Manu Ginobili reinjured his left ankle and wasn't a factor! Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points and Lebron James added 15 points with 13 in the second half. Luis Scola scored 28 points for Argentina, which didn't relinquish its title without a fight. Even without Ginobili for most of the game, the Argentines cut a 21-point lead into single digits and frustrated the Americans with their physical play, but they didn't have enough depth or firepower without their best player. Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul all had 12 points for the Americans. USA vs Spain in the Gold Medal Final on sunday!

I'M RICH BITCH!

I came across these photos online of a shirt someone made in 1997 protesting my bands tour. This was a time in hardcore where everyone was trying to be ultra PC, and for some reason people couldn't fathom the idea of a band getting paid $1,000 a show. Looking back, it's actually quite funny. $1,000 split 5 ways is $200 per person, not factoring in gas, food, hotels, and other travel expenses. Basically this kid was mad they were were pulling in what an average person working a regular job should be making! Haha...
I always tried to explain to these kids that if we charge $10 for a show and 500 kids show up that simples math should tell you that there is $5,000. Now who should be making that money? The band? The club? The promoter? Looking back, we should have been making even more!
Unfortunately, I don't personally own one of these shirts, but I would love to add it to my collection!
Just hand over the green!

BACK TO SCHOOL SALE STARTS TOMORROW!

USA BEATS AUSSIES, ON TO THE SEMIS

Kobe Bryant has his best game of the olympics by scoring 25 points as Team USA advanced to the semifinals by beating Australia 116-85 this morning. The United States will play defending champion Argentina on Friday night for a spot in Sunday's gold medal game. Argentina beat the U.S. in the semifinals of the 2004 Olympics. LeBron James was a beast and added 16 points. They need two more wins for their first gold medal in a major international competition since the 2000 Sydney Games.

DIZ GIBRAN

Our boy, Diz Gibran, has been receiving some well deserved pub lately... He just dropped this informative interview on The Smoking Section, and then Nah Right hit us with two brand new tracks!

Look for his mixtape dropping in the next few months.

SOME DUDE IN HIS LIVING ROOM RAPPING ABOUT SOME WHACK SB'S

This dude can't be serious... or is he? Shutter shades on mom's couch? Ferris Bueller's on Ebay? It's all a little strange to me... I do like the way he color coordinated his couch to his kicks though!
Although this dude is whack, I know he could take out Armani X-Change, and J-Baby in a rap battle in a second! Haha.

GERMANS GET THEIR ASS BEAT AS USA ROLLS!

After destroying Germany 106-57 this morning, the Americans (5-0) move on to a quarterfinal matchup Wednesday against Australia, the team that's provided them with their toughest test in China. The U.S. led by only seven points midway through the fourth quarter of an 87-76 exhibition victory in Shanghai two weeks ago over an Australian team that didn't have starting center Andrew Bogut of the Milwaukee Bucks. He was resting a sore right ankle. Germany was a joke while Dwight Howard scored 22 points and LeBron James had 18 points and Kobe Bryant finished with 13 points as Team USA shot 55 percent from the floor and tossed in 11 more 3-pointers after making 12 in their last game.

Be sure to add Internal Affairs as your friend on Myspace, and be on the lookout for this collab dropping sometime next week at Tradition.

USA DESTROYS SPAIN

What made Saturday's 119-82 beatdown of Spain so impressive was the way the Team USA did everything so extraordinarily easy and well. Spain was supposed to be our toughest opponent and they failed to show it! Lebron had 18 ponts and 7 assists, D-Wade had 16 points and 7 rebounds, Carmelo had 16 points and Kobe had 11 but had some spectacular dunks. In my opinion the Olympics is over and we are taking home the GOLD!

NECK FACE'S CANNIBAL CARNIVAL

Neckface is back in L.A. to stir up some trouble. This time, his third solo show at New Image Art, "Cannibal Carnival," is all
about taking things out of context to create some chaos. The watercolors featured in the show explore good things gone bad, subjects that become frightening when taken away from familiar settings. "When you see a clown at a circus its funny," says the artist, "but if you saw the same clown from the circus in an alleyway at midnight it wouldn't be funny at all." The original integrity of the medium is also twisted; a method which the artist normally associates with wholesome and effeminate images, Neckface uses watercolors and gouache to depict morbid and jarring scenes.

REVENGE IS SWEET!

Team USA came into the game this morning having not forgotten the tragic loss to Greece two summers ago in Japan and had been waiting over 23 long months for revenge. USA got what they wanted and stuck it to the Greeks with a 92-69 win! Kobe Bryant had a game-high 18 points and 5 rebounds. Dwayne Wade was spectacular with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals in just 20 minutes. Lebron James had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 blocks. So with this piece of redemption out of their way, the Americans now must turn their focus to an even better team that awaits them late Saturday night, Spain.

"THE REDEEM TEAM" CRUISES PAST ANGOLA

Team USA easily shoved Angola aside. Now come the teams that can push back. Dwyane Wade scored 19 points, James dominated the game with his size and strength on both ends, and the USA wrapped up the easy portion of its schedule with a 97-76 victory Tuesday night. Dwight Howard added 14 points and James finished with 12 for the Americans, who had another rough night from 3-point range but don't appear to be stoppable in the open court. Wade was perfect from the field in Beijing until missing in the third quarter. The United States improved to 4-0 against Angola, starting with the Dream Team's Olympic debut in 1992. That romp is best remembered for Charles Barkley's elbow to an unsuspecting Angolan player in a 116-48 victory. The Americans (2-0) moved on to face Greece, the team that stunned them two years ago in the semifinals of the world championship. Two days later comes a matchup with Spain, the team that won that tournament and is also 2-0 in this one after rallying to beat China in overtime behind 29 points from Pau Gasol.

NASTY NECK'S "CANNIBAL CARNIVAL"

USA ROUTS CHINA

The United States and China played a basketball game of historic import and global impact yesterday! The country with the best players destroyed the country with the most players, 101-70. And up to a billion people might have witnessed it, either live or on TV, the president of the United States among them. It didn't matter that Team USA only shot 7 for 29 from 3 point range because all they had to do was go to the hole and dunk on China, which we did all game! Next up is Angola tomorrow night..

HOMELAND SECURITY

Last night I hit the studio with Ca$his and Young De. Ca$his was working on his "Loose Cannon" album for Shady/Aftermath and finishing up a few tracks for his Homeland Security project with Young De. Check out the street single from "Loose Cannon" called "Put it up" as well as "All I Be" and "Can't Move Me" from the Homeland Security project. I produced 2 tracks for that record as well, and I will post them as soon as I can. Be on the lookout for a trailer that we are producing for Homeland Security as well. Below are some photos from last nights session.

J. WILLIAMS A.K.A "WHITE CHOCOLATE" GOES TO THE CLIPPERS

The Los Angeles Clippers made arrangements yesterday to bring in yet another new player by reaching terms with free-agent point guard Jason Williams. Williams spent the past three seasons with the Miami Heat and who started at point guard for Miami's title-winning team in 2006! "We are excited to add Jason to our squad," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said in a statement. "He brings added veteran leadership and playoff experience to our backcourt." In 679 regular-season games, Williams has averaged 11.4 points, 6.3 assists and 2.4 rebounds while playing for three different teams. He has appeared in 53 playoff games, averaging 9.8 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds. I can guarantee my Clippers will be one of most exciting teams to watch this season, just wait and see!

SLAM!

Everyone keeps talking about Danny Way's big slam last week at the X-Games (Shown below).

Although it does make me cringe, nothing can top Jake Brown's slam straight to the flat bottom of the ramp from the 2007 X-Games. It makes me realize why I gave up skateboarding!

PEN AT WORK

The opening for our "Pen At Work" art show was last Saturday, and every artist did a great job with all of their pieces. Below are some pics of some of the work from the show. A few pieces are still available for purchase, so call the shop for pricing and availability (805)497-4717. Check back soon for pics of the opening party as well!

Axis killed it with three new pieces as well as some pen graphics for Stussy and WESC from his archives. His attention to detail is amazing and he is a true artist in every sense of the word. We even got a little shout out in his "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" piece in the form of a Tradition button on his leather jacket!

UNDRCRWN's own Daniel Wilson did some of my favorite pieces in the show as well. His "Crash" piece and his "Ski Mask Way" piece are so dope!

Below is a piece from my old friend Eyeone and his good friend Jason Youth. If you got a chance to see Eyeone's "Lost x Tradition" show last month at the shop, you will notice a big different in styles in this piece. Peep the X'ed up hand too!

Derek Albeck never fails to disappoint! This piece gives us a small glimpse into his new body of work, and was one of the first pieces to sell opening night. Expect big things from Derek in the future.

Chris Wolford is one of the artists from the upcoming brand Dethkills. This work is some of the best that I have seen from him. I especially liked the larger "Desert House" piece. The two smaller pieces are already sold as well.

This is the first time we have showed work from Tommy Ruets at the shop. The alphabet that he did is really dope.

Justin Davis contributed some really dark and detailed drawings for the show. They are somewhat reminiscent of Raymond Pettibon.

Jawn Agione (who helped curate the show with me) continued with his "Peas and Carrots" characters. These are always a crowd favorite, and we sold half of them the night of the show!

Quincy Sutton did a great job with his series of Bugs. He does a lot of graphic design work, so his work with pen is a nice change.

Alex Zakari contributed four bright and playful pieces for the show. They are a steal at only $75 each!

Once again, Marco Zamora did some great work. I bought the third small piece before the show even opened to add to my collection (I own 3 of his pieces already), and of course that's the one piece that everyone else wanted too (sorry guys!).

Hovland (Dim Witty) contributed 4 pieces to the show as well. His pieces have a retro look to them that reminded me of Rat Fink and R. Crumb. He also does these hand drawn t-shirts that are really amazing!

Woo did a great job with his "Plain Bait" series of pen on wood. I just wonder who the underage girl is that he got to pose for him...

Two more pieces from Jason Youth... I really like the "Exquisite Bitch" piece.

Last minute addition Jorger decided to stick out like a sore thumb with his piece framed in bright green!

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY

Last night I got a chance to see my friends in Cavalera Conspiracy play the House of Blues in L.A. I left my camera at the shop, so I didn't get a chance to take any pictures. Cavalera Conspiracy is Iggor and Max from Sepultura's new band. Max left Sepultura in 1996 (My band was actually on tour with them at the time), and this is the first time the 2 have played together since. Their new album sounds like it should have been released right between Arise and Chaos A.D. The show last night was amazing, and they played a good mix of new songs, classic Sepultura songs spanning their career, and even a Nailbomb song! One of the highlights of the show was seeing Max's son, Igor, play drums for "Troops of Doom."

This reminded me of one of my favorite YouTube videos of all time, which feature two young kids covering the classic Sepultura song Refuse/Resist in their bedroom! And I'm not alone... This video got over 3 million views!

After the show, we went to Cinespace to see Mixhell, which is Igor and his wife Laima's electronic group. It's always good to see musicians that you respect still kicking ass and at the same time doing something different and outside of the box! I almost hitched a ride with Igor to Phoenix and Dallas for Ozzfest, but I had a last minute change of heart!

AUSTRALIA TOUGH TEST FOR USA??

Undefeated, but no longer unchallenged, the U.S. Olympic men's basketball team wrapped up its exhibition schedule with its toughest test, pulling away to beat Australia 87-76 this morning. The United States led by only four points nearly halfway through the third quarter and was up by seven midway through the fourth against an Australian team that was resting its best player, Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut. The U.S. players still feel like gold-medal favorites, but they hardly looked like gold-medal locks during this shaky outing. Wade scored 22 points and LeBron James had 16 for the Americans, who finished 3-of-18 from 3-point range and 20-of-33 (61 percent) at the foul line.

USA BEATS RUSSIA

Kobe Bryant once again provided the offense in the U.S. Olympic basketball team's first defensive struggle. Bryant scored 19 points, Carmelo Anthony added 17, and the Americans beat Russia 89-68 Sunday in what was by far their most competitive tuneup yet for the Beijing Games. The United States had been scoring 118 points per game while winning its first three exhibitions by an average of 41 points. Russia allowed far fewer fast-break baskets than the previous U.S. opponents, successfully keeping the game in the halfcourt and forcing the Americans to run more offensive sets. Dwyane Wade continued his strong play off the bench with 16 points as the USA gears up for their final exhibition game against Australia.

USA UNLEASHES "THE DOBERMAN"

Americans roll to a 120-84 victory over Lithuania on Friday night. Bryant harassed longtime U.S. nemesis Sarunas Jasikevicius into a miserable night! That's what I do," said Bryant, who gave himself a new nickname: "The Doberman." Jasikevicius was unstoppable in a win over the United States four years ago. So Bryant, who has made it a point to defend the opponent's best perimeter threat since joining the team last summer, blanketed him in the same manner as he did Phoenix guard Leandro Barbosa of Brazil in the Olympic qualifying tournament. Wade scored 19 points, Dwight Howard had 17, and LeBron James 15 for the Americans, who raced to a big early lead, then pulled away again after Lithuania got within single digits early in the second half. Bryant finished with 13 points, nine during the big U.S. first quarter.
