MONTA GETS WHAT HE DESERVES

The Golden State Warriors have found their replacement for All-Star point guard Baron Davis and they didn't have to look far. The Warriors signed Monta Ellis, their 22-year-old restricted free agent, to a six-year, $67 million contract. Ellis is receiving one of the largest raises in NBA history. As the 40th player selected in the 2005 draft, Ellis was paid just $770,610 last season. He will earn $11 million in 2008-2009. Monta is one of the most exciting players in the NBA, if you haven't heard about him, give it time because he is the REAL DEAL!

WNBA BRAWL, FINALLY!

Lisa Leslie and Candace Parker are the only players to have dunked in a WNBA game. On Tuesday night, they were involved in a skirmish. Parker was one of three players ejected, along with Detroit assistant coach Rick Mahorn, after the scuffle with 4.6 seconds left in the Los Angeles Sparks' 84-81 victory over the Shock. It started moments after Parker and Detroit's Cheryl Ford had to be separated after Ford fouled Parker. On the next possession, Parker got tangled up with Detroit's Plenette Pierson and fell to the ground. As Parker was getting up, Pierson hovered over the Sparks' rookie, who pulled her to the ground. Parker then was tackled by the Shock's Deanna Nolan. Players and coaches from both teams joined in, and Mahorn — who said he simply was trying to separate players — pushed Leslie at one point and knocked her to the court. Los Angeles' DeLisha Milton-Jones then pushed and punched Mahorn in the back. SEE FOR YOURSELF!

ONE DAY AS A LION

One Day As A Lion is a new project featuring former Rage Against The Machine and Inside Out frontman Zach de la Rocha and former Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore. A few songs have been posted on their website and their Myspace page. Fans of RATM will not be disappointed... So far it sounds like a stripped down version of Rage. An EP is available now on Epitaph/Anti.

“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.”

“A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.”

“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”

HIP CHECK TO THE DOME! LOL

This is what happens when you enter a dunk contest with no boosties and forget to eat your Wheaties!

NBA HAWKS STAR LEAVES FOR GREECE..

Josh Childress is leaving the Atlanta Hawks for Greek club Olympiakos, reversing the course of the many international stars who have signed with the NBA. Heading overseas allows Childress to make more money than he could have as a restricted free agent in the United States. The Hawks had the right to match an offer from another NBA team, but not from an international club. The three-year deal was worth about $20 million after taxes. The money is guaranteed, and Childress can opt out of the contract after each year. The deal is the most lucrative current contract in European basketball and the biggest in Euroleague history, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which first reported the signing. The newspaper reported Monday the Hawks had a deal on the table worth nearly $36 million, with a first-year salary in excess of the midlevel exception of $5.6 million. The 6-foot-8, 210-pound guard/forward averaged 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds as the Hawks' top reserve last season. He averaged 11.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in four years with Atlanta about being drafted sixth overall in 2004 out of Stanford.

CAMBY READY TO GIVE IT TO THE NUGGETS

Six days later, and Marcus Camby still can't believe what went down. My Los Angeles Clippers acquired Camby, the NBA's leading shot-blocker the past three seasons, from the Denver Nuggets last Tuesday for the option to exchange second-round picks with the Clippers in 2010. "When I heard of the trade, I said, 'Who did Denver get in return?'" Camby said today at an introductory news conference. The answer was nobody, although the Nuggets are relieved of Camby's $10 million salary-cap figure. "Yes," Camby answered quickly when asked if the Nuggets gave him away. "I understand this is a business," he said. "No one said a word [about the trade], I found out from my agent." "I thought the way [the Nuggets] went about it was classless," he said. "I thought it could have gone down a whole lot better. I'll get over it once training camp begins when I'm around the guys. You never forget. I'm definitely looking forward to those couple games we play against Denver. "Denver was a place my family and I really loved. It was kind of shocking. I felt I did everything possible for that team." And, he added, in the community as well.
